Femtocells in Portugal Telecom; Mobile Video in Vodafone

TMCnet reports that Vodafone Portugal has signed a deal with Ortiva Wireless, for delivering high quality video, audio and rich multimedia experience to mobile users under variable wireless network conditions. Vodafone Portugal is the company’s first European customer and will be using its mobile Video Optimization Gateway (mVOG). This will be also used to enhance all live TV channels starting first quarter of 2009.

On other news; Portugal Telecom is testing femtocells, as Jornal de Negócios writes (in portuguese). A femtocell — originally known as an Access Point Base Station —is a small cellular base station, typically designed for use in residential or small business environments.
